Maurizio Geri

A senior strategic analyst in international security, political scientist, and commentator, with twenty years of experience between NGOs, academia, think tanks, and international institutions (in particular NATO) on defense, global affairs, diplomacy and cooperation, strategic foresight, peace and security (including the recent energy-resources-climate security nexus and maritime security). Expertise also in Emerging Disruptive Technologies, Multidomain Operations, Security Force Assistance, Stability Policing, Security Sector Reforms. He can balance analyses and research among theoretical-academic approaches, policy makers-business needs, and political-strategic vision. With a strong background also in conflict resolution, Human Rights, minority rights, and democratization his regions of expertise are North-Atlantic/European area, Mediterranean/MENA/African region, Caucasus/Central Asian region.

Dr Geri worked as consultant for different think tanks and institutions to include NATO, EU, EUI, University of Florence, Italian MOD (Center for the Innovation of Defense) Euro Gulf Information Center and Trends Research and Advisory. He is a former strategic analyst for MENA region at NATO Allied Command Transformation in the US and NATO HQ in Bruxelles. He has professional experience as field officer with different NGOs (to include Peace Brigades International and Nonviolent Peaceforce) and in researching for different think tanks in the US, to include Carter Center, Nonviolence International and Washington Institute for Near East Policy.

He holds a PhD in International Security (Conflict and Cooperation) from Old Dominion University in Virginia/US, a MA in Cultural Studies and a BA in Political Science/International Relations from the University of Florence, Italy, besides many others diplomas and certificates in the security-development-diplomacy sector. He studied among other topics democratization processes and democratic crisis, world order transitions, maritime security, Mediterranean/MENA regional order. He published several articles, both academic and journalistic, and a book with Palgrave on “Ethnic minorities in democratizing Muslim countries: Turkey and Indonesia”.
